As the boys took their positions on the pitch we all knew this was a foregone conclusion. Approaching 10ft tall in their new Lizard Design football shirts no team would have stood a chance. No shorts yet but with passion for pants they looked lean, mean and ready for business. Not to be outdone the management looked almost professional sporting their new Stephensons training jackets, the likes of West Ham would have gone down to Blaze that afternoon – Valley Green Jets never even stood a chance.

And so the match kicked off, within minutes Hughes had notched up the first goal by lobbing the ball into the top corner from outside the box. Yes, yes, yes we thought. But then from a free kick the Jets equalised. Although we had most of the play throughout the match there were some dangerous players in the opposing team, a swift break and we were vulnerable. But wham bam that was MacSween making it 2-1, their goalie never even saw it! 2-2 came shortly after and just before half time, Hills displaying his ferret like tendencies made it 3-2.

Half time - team talk over and the Lizard Design shirts were back out ready for action. End to end, side to side, passing, linking, defending, attacking the football was good but the MADs (that’s Mums and Dads as opposed to Wives and Girlfriends) on the side-line needed another goal to allow us to breathe a little easier and provide a bit of a cushion. And what a goal it was - a super-kick from Harris received by Sarhan whipped across to Thomas slipped to Ingrouille onto MacSween switched to Monsell back to Price crossed to Johnson picked up by Hills nipped into Lutwama-Lwanga and finished off by Hughes 4-2. Lutwama-Lwanga made it 5-2 shortly after with a rocket from outside the box. A foul on Hills resulted in a penalty which Johnson put away with ease. 6 –2 game over job done.

The boys looked fantastic and played their hearts out, they wore their new shirts with pride and us MAD’s are very grateful to Lizard Design and Stephensons for providing such superb kit.
