Match report

To borrow a much used phrase:

"...... today was a game of two halves......"

The sun was out, the crowd was expectant, would the boys build on last Sundays performance......?

After last weeks change in formation the boys seemed confident at kick off and were raring to go. With Mike sitting out his rotation week, captain Ben took over in the defensive midfield role in front of Jack and Henry. Fred, looking like he had grown another inch this week had his gloves on and the whistle blew.

The opening minutes of the game were a real battle, as both teams looked for possession, tackles slid in from all angles and the midfield four of Ben, Ossie, Isaac and Ollie tried hard to wrestle possession. Ossie and Ollie both carried the ball well and were close to playing the final pass on a couple of occasions.

Isaac continues to give the balance on the left and cuts out balls down the line, whilst supporting the defence. As the half went on in the warm sunshine, players tired and a few changes were made to bring on some fresh legs. As we have seen in previous games, making substitutions can sometimes leave the team vulnerable until players coming on settle in and this was the case today.

The Lions caused problems out wide for the opposition and on another day the chances created would have been taken. The important thing to remember is, you only miss chances if you get in the position to score. Ask Andy Carroll (Sorry, bad example!)

With seconds to go in the first half, a clearance rebounded into space and was calmly finished by the Barracuda forward.

Deservedly leading at half time the opposition were probably expecting the battle to continue in the second half. From the whistle, the Lions seemed on the back foot, in the rare attacks Sam, Ollie and Zach all had chances for the Lions, but just couldn't find the net and ignite a comeback.

There was some strong tackling all over the pitch and the boys worked hard and spent a lot of time trying to protect Freddie's goal, Tom and Jack both made goal saving tackles. Ollie and Ossie came off shattered, having not stopped and really took the game to the Barracudas especially in the first half.

With the ref checking the time, Sam stole possession before finding the net from an angle to complete the scoring..

Today's game showed we have to play for the full 50 minutes and there are still lots of things to work on ..... but we'll get there. The only people scratching their heads more tonight will be AVB and Co.!!

Thanks to all spectators, the goal erectors, respect barrier technicians, and Bumble for reffing.

Don't forget training on Tuesday.....
