View from the sidelines...
After last week, the boys were asked a few questions......... and every single Lion answered them!
Last week wasn't good, today was great!
Having been outplayed last Sunday, Bumble changed a few things to give the boys more drive in the middle. Mike was asked to play a more defensive midfield role with Henry playing in front, it worked well and gave Jack and Tom more confidence at the back.
Torquespeed played some nice football and their corners caused problems, leading to a goal. Two up at half time Torquespeed were worthy leaders, whilst the Lions were trying hard and kept their shape really well.
Within minutes of the restart, a great shot form Zach led to a goal, and the Lions were on the front foot. Great to see a 6 boy celebration! Sam, Ossie and Zach made more tackles and drove the team forward and created a few chances, but unfortunately couldn't take them. Isaac kept his discipline on the left and his throw ins will cause teams problems.
A great break down the right handside and a ball into the box led to Zach almost scoring, as the ball dropped to Mike he finished with confidence. As time went by, Sam hit the post and the boys pushed forward to score, they were caught on the break and Torquespeed extended their lead, Freddie again made some great saves, came out on top in one on ones and even caught his first corner!
The game today showed that the boys want to play as a team and when it gets tough they are all willing to roll their sleeves up and work hard. Henry may have captained the team today but all the boys took responsibility and it was great to see the enthusiasm and togetherness. At full time, their were smiles and the boys realised that the team had played well and really stuck together.... No man of the match today as it was a team effort. Thanks to Neil for reffing (albeit dodgy kit!), Hils for camera work and all the parents for their words of wisdom....
If we can play with the same attitude every Sunday we will start to get what the effort deserves.
