We drove through floods to reach the Bombers training ground just so the lads could remember what it is like to have a ball at their feet once again. Despite the Bombers being a year younger and not being used to 9v9, Blaze knew they would be in for a tough workout as the Bombers are a very good side. And so it proved. The match was a hard fought, tight affair with relatively few goal scoring opportunities, the majority of which were created by the Bombers but, as usual Harris proved equal to everything that was thrown at him. The Bombers skilful midfield players caused Blaze a number of headaches but what Blaze lacked in skill and ball control they made up for in work ethic, commitment and a never-say-die attitude. There were strong performances all over the pitch but Springthorpe, Price, Johnson and Thomas stood out while Macsween proved a very able full back towards the end. Blaze's best chance was a free kick from Lutwama-Lwanga (we call him Martin) which the keeper saved well. in fact, Blaze didn't score at all - a defensive mix up resulted in a Bombers own goal.

The match was a good work out for all concerned - the result was really irrelevant but the Bombers deserved at least a draw which says it all. They have some stand out players and in reality the heavy pitch and the Bombers lack of familiarity with 9v9 was probably a bit of a leveller. All credit to Blaze but we wouldn't want to try to defuse the Bombers every week !
